2008 AGM
'Mersey Beetle Tour' Liverpool
27th June – 29th June

During 2008 Liverpool
is officially the recognised European Capital of Culture. It is only
fitting that this years AGM will be held in the historic city of Liverpool.
You will discover some of the magical highlights of Liverpool, including the
famous Ferry Across the Mersey, the historic docklands and many more.
We will be based in the Holiday Inn at Runcorn. This is easily accessible from all roads pointing north or south!. The hotel is located in rural Cheshire 5 minutes from the historic market town of Frodsham and offers excellent value for money with the weekend costing under £100 for a single room and under £150 for a double room, all payable on departure. The price includes bed and breakfast for Friday and dinner, bed and breakfast for Saturday with access to all hotel facilities which include a swimming pool with jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and fully equipped gymnasium.
On Saturday we will leave the hotel and cross the beautiful Runcorn bridge to drive along Speke Boulevard with views of the modern art that graces the entrance to Liverpool. This includes the Mersey Wave that forms a dramatic gateway, marking the geographic boundary of Liverpool.
There will be an opportunity to stop at Otterspool Promenade where the views across the river Mersey are quite spectacular. This will provide a perfect cabrio photo spot!
We will continue the drive into the centre of Liverpool along the edge of the Mersey to park at the Liverpool Marina (more photo opportunities!) where you can break for a coffee and view the marina.
This will be followed by a walk along the promenade to the famous Albert Dock complex which houses shops, museums, the Tate gallery and numerous coffee shops and restaurants. For those who would like to do some city shopping it is only a short walk from here into the heart of the city. For those who prefer art and culture there are many more museums, art galleries and grandiose architecture in the city centre.
In the afternoon, we will go on the famous Mersey Ferry cruise. This one hour cruise not only gives you the opportunity to view the famous Liverpool waterfront from the water but you will also discover many of its interesting facets and history, described in a fascinating commentary. The ferry service itself is more than 850 years old.
We will drive from Liverpool Marina through the suburbs of south Liverpool back to the hotel where the AGM will be held in the early evening before we gather for a carvery meal in the hotel restaurant. Next stop….the bar!
After a bit of a lie in on Sunday we will take you on a Magical Mystery tour before finishing at Speke Hall, a Tudor house with extensive gardens. From here we will say au revoir!
We hope this has whetted your appetite. If you have visited Liverpool in the past this is the perfect opportunity to reacquaint yourself with the city in Liverpool’s year as capital of culture. If you have never visited Liverpool before - what are you waiting for? We hope to see you all there in June.
