BVF
Malvern 2007

7th
& 8th July were the dates for this years trip to
the Three Counties Showground, Malvern for BVF 2007.
The previous weeks on run up to the event were nothing less than persistent
torrential rain.
This was when half of England seemed to be affected by flooding.
Literally 2-3 miles away at Upton upon Severn the river had flooded most of
the town. Further down stream at Tewksbury the situation was much worse as you
probably remember seeing on national TV at the time.
The chances of BVF going ahead looked ‘very slim’. Several members
who had earlier stated they would attend began to ‘cry off’. However
the week before the event the rain eased off and provided several days of dull
but dry weather and by Saturday we were blessed with bright warm sun that remained
with us to the end of Sunday evening - We couldn’t of booked it any better.
I was unsure how water
logged the ground would be so took my wellies and plastic sheeting. On the day
of arrival I was amazed how well the ground had dried after only a few days
of dry weather. There were of course areas of the showground in the dips and
hollows that were still a bit boggy but most of the level areas were dry and
firm underfoot allowing the event to continue unhindered and without the need
for wellies!
The number of Cabbies
on display was down on last year but still a respectable 5 including mine which
is not a bad turnout in view of the cancellations due to the weather. Committee
members Bill Bailey, Diane, Alan and Carolyn Aspden attended but not in their
Cabbies. Bill and Diane set up stall selling off much of the contents of their
garage, shed and attic in the form of what seemed like everything VW from parts
and toys to magazines and memorabilia etc. Bill’s sharp sales spiel managed
to extract £10 from my pocket within 2 minutes of me arriving at the stall
– see photo! (Bill, you should’ve been in sales!) Alan and Carolyn
Aspden travelled to the event in their VW Golf with the intention of selling
it at the show only to have it ‘written off’ on arrival by someone
running into the back of the car as he turned into the entrance gate (Schukks!!)
Alan, all I can say is, wasn’t it lucky you weren’t in the Cabbie!!
Camping on the plot
was avoided this year as our plot was very close to a certain ‘loud’
water-cooled club who were keen to share their ‘very loud’ music
with everyone in the area well into the early hours. Fortunately Bill found
us an alternative plot with type 4 camper members – a much more civilised
crew.
Overall, another enjoyable BVF event!
Thanks to club members David
Parrot, Geoff Woodfield, Keith Lanham and Sally Wilde, for displaying their
cars.
