Stanford Hall '07
6th May 2007

This is now my Favorite event in the VW calendar. Not least because of the quality of all vehicles on display but it's also the biggest gathering of Karmann Cabrio's outside of the Club's AGM's and International meetings.

For those unfamiliar with this event and location should understand that Stanford has much to offer not least the hall itself with it’s pleasant gardens.
Stanford Hall is a stately home set in large grounds in open countryside on the South Leicestershire border. It is in the village of Stanford-on-Avon, which is 5 miles south east of Lutterworth.

The Stanford event is held in high regard amongst the VW fold and receives plenty of positive feedback from virtually all who attend. The success of this superbly run event is the direct result of the huge effort put in by the 'The Leicestershire & Warwickshire VW Owners Club' who organise this 'landmark event' each year. If I were to have any criticism it would be that I only wish this was a two day event as I never seem to be able to get through all that Stanford has to offer in just one day. There is so much to do and see as well as so many people to talk VW with or anything else for that matter.

The weathermen predicted a strong chance of rain however the rain held off and we were blessed with hazy sunshine for most of the afternoon. The Cabrio club marquee is always a popular meeting place with plenty of tea and biscuits on hand - (very useful for quenching dry throats during intense chin wagging).

The Cabrio stand stood in it's usual leafy position along side the Hall itself.
Turn out was good with the Cabrio club displaying a total of 25 Cabrio’s on the plot. There were at least half as many Cabrio Club members cars again in the concours displays. This was significantly up on last year. It seemed to me there was a noticeable increase in the younger generations showing interest in Cabrio's this year - could it be that the Bus/Camper has become too expensive and the Karmann Cabrio is looking more appealing with it's lower price tag?

The Cabrio Concours was a well attended event with a very high standard of Cars in both classes, with the 1303's being particularly close fought, with 4 points splitting the top 3 places. The results kindly supplied by Robert Loughrey are as follows:
Class 6 All flat screen cabs including 1302 -
1st - Robert Wynne Ruby Red/Black1964 With 102 points (max140) of Denbigh

2nd - Richard Sturman Red/Grey 1970 With 100 points of Croydon
Class 7 1303 -
1st - Anthony Ruane Ancona Blue/Pale Sand 1977 With 131points of Rotherham

2nd - Heather Shaw Ancona Blue/Pale Sand 1977 With 130 points of Holmfirth
Super Class
